Retail display ideas from home and away

Our May 2025 store visits brought together football-themed activity, unusual display techniques and examples spotted overseas. The projects were different, but they prompted the same question: what does a display add to the way a shopper understands the product?

Football as a retail occasion

Ahead of the Women’s EURO 2025 tournament, we saw brands connecting their in-store presence with football. An event can give a campaign a useful context, but the creative still needs a clear role for the product and a reason for the shopper to act. Our SUPPORT HER case study explores one of our own projects in this area.

Movement without a screen

A Glade hotspot used a lenticular graphic that changed as shoppers moved past it. It was a reminder to consider the viewing angle and movement through an aisle when developing POS. A physical effect can become part of the idea when it suits the message and the space.

A change of scale

An example brought back from Australia featured an inflatable Twirl. Enlarging a familiar pack can create an unexpected visual, but the practical question remains: can shoppers quickly recognise the product and find the shelf or display where it is available?

Turn inspiration into a brief

Instead of copying an interesting format, identify what you want it to achieve. Does the project need product explanation, seasonal recognition or a different view of a familiar brand? Then assess the idea against the location, production requirements and shopper journey.
